You can spend the morning with a laptop in a quiet caf\u00e9 in Marrakech<\/strong>, walk outside into the heat and noise of Gueliz, then settle somewhere completely different for the afternoon. In Casablanca<\/strong><\/a>, the pace feels more businesslike. Tangeri<\/strong> has a cooler, breezier character, while Essaouira can make an ordinary Tuesday feel suspiciously close to a holiday.<\/p>\n

The trouble starts when the romance of working abroad collides with real work.<\/p>\n

A video call freezes. A caf\u00e9 Wi-Fi network asks you to sign in again. Your VPN connects through an IP address that half the internet seems to distrust. A client portal sends you through another CAPTCHA<\/strong>. Suddenly, the two-hour writing session you had planned has turned into twenty minutes of troubleshooting.<\/p>\n

Working remotely<\/strong> da Moroccan coworking spaces<\/strong> and caf\u00e9s can be remarkably practical, provided you build your day around those little friction points rather than treating them as afterthoughts. Morocco\u2019s internet infrastructure has improved significantly, 5G is now available<\/a> in major parts of the country, and purpose-built workspaces are becoming easier to find.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The trick is choosing the right place for the kind of work you actually need to do.<\/p>\n

Is Morocco good for remote work?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Yes. Morocco is a strong remote-work destination for travellers<\/strong> who need dependable internet and flexible places to work, especially in Marrakech and Casablanca, with Tangier and other cities offering useful alternatives.<\/p>\n

Ookla\u2019s June 2026 figures<\/a> put Morocco\u2019s median mobile download speed at 143.54 Mbps<\/strong>, while median fixed broadband download speed reached 80.70 Mbps<\/strong>. Those figures describe national performance rather than the Wi-Fi available at an individual caf\u00e9, so they should be treated as a sign of the country\u2019s broader connectivity rather than a promise from the table beside you.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There is another reason to feel more confident about staying connected. Morocco launched 5G commercially in November 2025, with Inwi, Orange Maroc and Maroc Telecom rolling out the technology. By April 2026, the Moroccan government said 5G had reached more than 50 cities and around seven million subscribers, while the national broadband programme had brought 4G coverage to 10,690 of 10,740 identified zones.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That gives a remote worker something valuable: a realistic backup when caf\u00e9 Wi-Fi lets you down<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Start with the workspace, not the coffee<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A beautiful riad courtyard makes an excellent Instagram backdrop. It can also make a terrible place to spend six hours editing a large client document.<\/p>\n

Before choosing a caf\u00e9, think about what your working block contains. Writing a few emails requires very little. A Zoom meeting with a client in London has different demands. Uploading large video files creates another problem entirely.<\/p>\n

This is where coworking spaces earn their money.<\/p>\n

L\u2019BLASSA<\/strong> in Marrakech, one of my favorites, currently offers a daily pass for 100 MAD<\/strong>, with high-speed internet and printer access. It also has a meeting room for 100 MAD an hour and a phone booth priced at 50 MAD an hour, which is useful when you have an important call and the open workspace starts feeling a little too social.\u00a0<\/p>\n

New Work Lab<\/strong> in Casablanca takes a more business-oriented approach. Its current site describes a central coworking environment aimed at entrepreneurs and professionals, while its published contact information gives weekday opening hours from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Caf\u00e9s still have their place, though, particularly for lighter work. Marrakech has a growing collection of laptop-friendly caf\u00e9s, and recent local guides point repeatedly toward Gueliz as a useful base for people combining work with city life.\u00a0<\/p>\n

My preference for a caf\u00e9 workday would be simple: use caf\u00e9s for focused work when the task is flexible, and reserve coworking spaces for work that carries consequences if something goes wrong.<\/p>\n

Treat caf<\/strong>\u00e9 Wi-Fi as a convenience, not your only connection<\/strong><\/h2>\n

One of the easiest mistakes to make as a digital nomad is assuming that a caf\u00e9\u2019s Wi-Fi will remain reliable simply because it worked when you tested it for five minutes.<\/p>\n

The network might be fast at 10 a.m. and sluggish at lunchtime. Someone may start uploading large files. A router can need restarting. You may discover that the power outlet nearest your table has already been claimed.<\/p>\n

Morocco\u2019s improving mobile infrastructure gives you a much better fallback than many travellers had a few years ago. Orange\u2019s 5G network is currently available in 135 Moroccan cities<\/strong>, while the wider national rollout continues.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That makes a local SIM or eSIM<\/a> with sufficient data one of the most useful purchases you can make for a work-heavy trip.<\/p>\n

The important point is to test your mobile connection before<\/em> your caf\u00e9 Wi-Fi fails. Open your main work platform through the mobile network. Join a short test meeting. Upload a modest file. You want to know what your backup can actually handle while there is still time to fix it.<\/p>\n

The CAPTCHA problem deserves more attention than it gets<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This is one of those annoyances you only appreciate after it ruins a work session.<\/p>\n

You log in to an online tool from Morocco. The service notices a VPN address. Perhaps hundreds of other people have been using that same shared address. Suddenly, you are asked to prove you are human.<\/p>\n

You solve the CAPTCHA.<\/p>\n

Another appears.<\/p>\n

Then another.<\/p>\n

For someone browsing casually, this is merely irritating. For a freelancer moving between Google Workspace, analytics platforms, client dashboards and publishing tools, repeated verification can become a genuine drain on the day.<\/p>\n

Private Internet Access currently offers a dedicated IP<\/strong> as a paid VPN add-on. The feature provides a static address that no other PIA user shares and can help reduce CAPTCHA prompts, verification requests and restrictions associated with shared VPN addresses.\u00a0<\/p>\n

So, if shared VPN addresses keep interrupting your workflow, you can add a dedicated IP to your Private Internet Access plan<\/a> and use the same VPN address each time you connect to your selected location. PIA\u2019s dedicated IP remains within the VPN connection rather than exposing your normal connection directly.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For a remote worker, the real advantage is simpler: fewer random changes in the address that your regular work services see<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

That becomes especially useful when your working day involves repeated logins.<\/p>\n

Use a VPN for the network problem, not as a magic button<\/strong>
<\/h2>\n

Public Wi-Fi deserves a little caution, even in a stylish caf\u00e9 where everyone around you appears to be working peacefully.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission advises travellers<\/a> to remember that public Wi-Fi can expose users to risks, while modern websites frequently protect information through HTTPS.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A reputable VPN can add protection for traffic travelling across an untrusted network, but there is a practical side to this too. Some company systems expect a particular connection pattern, and certain services can react badly to frequent IP changes.<\/p>\n

That means you should test your normal work setup before leaving home.<\/p>\n

Open your employer\u2019s systems. Check your password manager. Test the VPN. Launch the tools you use most often. Then repeat the process from your phone hotspot.<\/p>\n

Your best caf\u00e9 may depend on the hour<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There is a strange rhythm to working from caf\u00e9s. A place that feels perfect in the morning can become noisy after lunch, while another location that seems too busy at 11 a.m. may calm down later.<\/p>\n

This is why I would avoid choosing a favourite caf\u00e9 based purely on aesthetics.<\/p>\n

Look for the things you only notice after sitting down. Is the table actually deep enough for a laptop? Can you reach an outlet without stretching your charger across someone\u2019s path? Does the music remain low enough for a call? Are people working around you, or does the entire room change character when the lunch crowd arrives?<\/p>\n

Moromads, a Morocco-focused remote-work directory, currently reports average Wi-Fi speeds of about 62 Mbps in Casablanca, 55 Mbps in Rabat, 39 Mbps in Marrakech and 72 Mbps in Tangier<\/strong> across the places it tracks. Those figures come from its own database rather than a nationwide telecom measurement, so they are better treated as rough guidance when comparing work-friendly spots.<\/p>\n

That variation is the point.<\/p>\n

Morocco has good connectivity at the national level, yet the individual chair you choose still controls your afternoon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
